Part of why I tutor is because I remember how hard school could feel growing up. I struggled in class too, and even though I didn’t always enjoy tutoring itself, there were tutors who encouraged me, believed in me, and made me feel capable when I doubted myself. Those positive affirmations stayed with me, and now I want to be that kind of support for someone else.
While tutoring a 3rd grader struggling with English, I connected lessons to his interest in Roblox to make concepts easier to understand. Once the material clicked, his confidence grew immediately. He was so excited about his progress that he proudly shared everything he learned with his mom when she arrived.
My coaching strengths include active listening, patience, and being highly interactive with students. I focus on creating a supportive environment, encouraging confidence through positive reinforcement, and adapting my approach to fit each student’s learning style and academic needs.
A positive learning environment is patient, encouraging, and supportive. I believe tone of voice, facial expressions, and positive affirmations play a big role in helping students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities while learning.
Being a mentor means being a supportive and positive influence in someone’s life beyond academics. It’s about encouraging confidence, listening with patience, and helping students feel capable of reaching their goals. I value creating meaningful connections that make students feel understood, motivated, and supported in their growth.
