Kathryn has been teaching since age 14, from music lessons to academic tutoring. She loves helping students learn in ways that fit their individual styles while building creativity, organization, and confidence. Tutoring lets Kathryn support both academic growth and lifelong learning habits.
One AP World History student I worked with had trouble staying engaged during traditional lessons. I realized I needed to change my approach, so I leaned into visuals—maps, images, videos, and historical art—and made sessions more exploratory. He became more focused, genuinely interested in the material, and we worked together through the entire year to his AP exam. Over time, he became genuinely interested in the material and earned a strong score on his AP exam!
Kathryn's coaching style is energetic, interactive, and student-centered. She builds strong rapport through active listening and bring creativity and enthusiasm to each session, especially in virtual settings. By using visuals and discussion, Kathryn makes learning engaging, collaborative, and enjoyable rather than lecture-based.
A positive learning environment is one where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and communicating openly. Strong rapport and trust matter, and I believe in celebrating small wins along the way—not just the final goal, but the progress that leads there.
Being a mentor means supporting a student’s growth beyond academics. I value helping students build executive function skills like organization, planning, and professional communication, while also being someone they can trust for guidance on school, college, and future goals as they grow more confident and independent.
