I tutor because I love seeing others gain a passion for learning. I understand how it feels to be stuck on a problem or question, and I want to be a guide for my students. I especially enjoy seeing their reactions when everything finally clicks and their confidence grows.
One time, one of my students was struggling to memorize cellular respiration and its many steps. I began by breaking the process down into individual cycles and using common, day-to-day analogies to make it more approachable. When my student shared that it still wasn’t clicking, I pivoted and explained the material using a different approach. After the second explanation, she began to understand the process more clearly. To ensure her understanding, I always end the lesson with a brief check where she explains the concept back to me. I also regularly ask for feedback on my teaching methods to make sure my students get the most out of our time together.
Some of my specific coaching strengths include academic advising, interactive instruction, and flexibility. I enjoy providing students with time-management and study strategies, and I am always willing to adapt my teaching style to meet their individual needs.
A positive learning environment means being open to constructive criticism and building strong relationships so students feel comfortable expressing concerns. This means actively listening, adapting teaching strategies to individual needs, encouraging questions, and fostering trust so students feel supported, confident, and motivated to learn.
Being a mentor means more to me than simply helping someone succeed academically. It means being a source of support, guidance, and encouragement. I believe mentorship is about meeting students where they area and adapting my approach to help them grow with confidence. As a mentor, I aim to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes to discover their own potential. Seeing a student gain understanding and believe in their abilities is incredibly rewarding, and it motivates me to continue mentoring with patience, empathy, and flexibility
