I tutor because I love helping others build confidence in themselves and attain a new passion in a topic that I am passionate in. I hope that in every session I have, my students are able to leave with a newfound joy in a subject they may have felt uncertain or frustrated with.
In the last year I was able to help a younger student of mine (elementary school entering middle school) with his English vocabulary and writing. At the start of our time together, he struggled and found this as a point of embarrassment. By the end of their year he was confident and knocking his spelling tests out of the park.
I think my strongest coaching assets are coming to every lesson prepared and making the experience both engaging and fun for their students. Preparation allows a teacher to communicate ideas clearly, anticipate challenges, and connect lessons to real-world contexts. When a student feels that their teacher is creating an enjoyable learning environment, they are more likely to stay curious and motivated.
A positive learning environment is defined by a student's ability to grow through the course of our sessions together.
For me, being a mentor is about building a relationship grounded in trust and support. A mentor goes beyond delivering guidance and embodies someone “in your corner” when you need it most.
