Why do I tutor?

I tutor because I like to help students overcome their stressors and a big one is academics. It can often feel demoralizing being compared to your peers for college acceptance or exam grades. My goal as a tutor is to make sure my students are confident in their abilities and proud to say they put their best foot forward.

Tutoring Experience

When tutoring Geometry in high school, I often found that my students would get overwhelmed by how complex the diagrams would look. When I realized that, I thought of ways to counteract that with kinetic learning. Instead of tackling problems head on, I taught my students how to narrow down their diagrams with post-it notes. This would help them visualize the information they could see when they narrow their focus on one section at a time.

Tutoring Style

I pride myself on my adaptability as a coach. I aim to adapt to my student’s needs based on their learning style. I base my lesson plans on their learning patterns and how far along they are in their class.

Positive Learning Environment

A positive learning environment is one that is interactive and allows for my student to ask questions. Without a safe space to ask questions, students will not feel confident in their capabilities in the classroom.

Importance of Being a Mentor

Being a mentor is beyond being someone who teaches. It is a role that someone takes to provide guidance and help through times of hardship. As someone who likes to help others, being a mentor is important to me because I want to help make a difference.
